Curriculum Vitae

“The Artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.”
~ Agnes de Mille

Although Agnes de Mille was a dancer, and I am an artist and writer, I identify with her statement completely. I too have taken leap after leap in my journey. From the age of twelve, I dreamed about writing, but the words in my head were a vision of colors and forms, of places and smells. This vision stayed with me until high school, when I started to draw.
I was born in Israel. Knowing I wanted to study art, my mom made me a deal: I could travel to Europe, but only if I would agree to take a “practical” career path and become a teacher. On my trip, I visited museums and walked the streets of Rome and Florence, marveling at the art in every corner and church. I knew then for sure that art was what I wanted to do. Nevertheless, I graduated and became a teacher, then served in the military and got married.
After getting married, I came to the USA with my husband to attend the Rhode Island School of Design and worked as a teacher to help with expenses. By the time I graduated from RISD, I had a son and a daughter and felt blessed and joyful to be able to raise them. I felt like a super mom! I worked as a teacher and got my BFA in apparel design, all while raising two children.

For many years, I worked as a designer, traveling and producing garments in Japan, India, China, Taiwan, Korea, and Sri Lanka. I also had the great fortune of visiting Europe several times a year to research fashion trends. Inspired by the sights, the landscape, the hues, and the smells, I drew fashion illustration and played with colors.
Traveling inland in India between manufacturing engagements, I started to write. I wrote and illustrated a series of children’s stories about a little girl named Shmaltzi . My many years of experiences and adventures helped me bring Shmaltzi  to life.

My life has been made up of many threads. I've been a secondary school teacher, a fashion designer, an artist, and a mother. Now I write, draw, and illustrate, as I always wanted to. My stories, my drawings, and my illustrations have allowed me to weave those many threads into a rich tapestry.
This was a life I was promised in a dream, and I am confronting it head on. Leap after leap to discover yet again what is around the corner.
